[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We thought that we had seen every type of smokey eye variation there is until Joan Smalls rocked up at the CFDA Awards with a full on ‘Denim’ smokey eye. Her simple style halter neck dress guaranteed you could spot her eyes from a mile away.

We have some top tips to help you achieve this look:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Eye makeup first

Remember when creating your look that any eye shadow can fall onto your cheeks which could ruin your finished look. Working on your base after your eye makeup means that it isn’t the end of the world if you mess up. Craft your lids and then sharpen the edges with tinted moisturiser and concealer before perfecting the rest of your face.

Begin small

When you want to create an exaggerated shape it is important that you start close to your lashes and then use the excess product on your brush to work the shape outwards.

Use more than one shade

By using more than one shade you will achieve a look that is more dimensional. Having created your shape with liner, select two or three navy jewel tones. Take a deep navy, a jewel navy, and a silver toned navy. Press each one onto the lid making sure you keep the crease and above clean for a modern finish.

Add some contrast

Having worked in the navy you can now define the inner eye with an azure shade. Follow this with navy mascara which will actually look black in some lights.

The perfect hair

To really make your makeup stand out slick all of your hair back into a ponytail, really making your face the sole focus.Learn how to create this beautiful, sleek, high pony tail – finished to perfection – on our Online Hair Up Course[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Make it your own look

If you feel like you can’t pull this look off then consider trying navy liner which actually suits everyone. Apply navy liner to your top and bottom lashes and then apply lashings of navy mascara.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Smokey eyes are a go to look for many of us but what do we do for clients that want that sexy look, but a little lighter for warmer weather or daytime wear? Smokey eyes is a very popular look with clients, both bridal and special occasion, so it’s an important one to learn! We go through this look thoroughly on our 2 & 4 day makeup courses, so if you’re struggling, why not join us on one of our courses for Pam’s expert guidance? Here are some top tips and tricks to help you achieve a softer smokey eye:

Shimmer bronzer is your friend when it comes to the summer smokey eye and it is a great product to warm up your eyes. It is also perfect for giving a look that can be worn both day and night.

For a look that won’t melt down your face in the heat, first apply a shadow primer followed by your shimmering and smokey eye shadows. A dot of Vaseline in the centre of the lid will help to highlight it. Long wearing and waterproof products are also a must during the summer months.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”32px”][vc_custom_heading text=”Get The Look” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Abril%20Fatface%3Aregular|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]

Begin by using a matte skin coloured shadow applying it from the lash line to the brow. With a medium to dark smokey shadow define the crease in a windscreen wiper motion. Blend this downwards towards your lashes making sure that you avoid the inner third of your eyelid. Take a darker shade and create a ‘V’ shape from your outer eye line right to the outer crease and blend towards the centre of your eyelid. Finish the look with gel eye liner along your lash line and then smudge.

Don’t worry if you make a mistake, you can repair this with some makeup remover on a cotton bud to clean up and then reapply your makeup after. Just stay calm, and continue!

Metallic shades look great this season whatever colour you go for. Just remember that if the eye makeup is bold then choose a sheer lip colour.
