Of all the makeup trends, orange lipstick can be one of the trickiest as it feels a bit ‘out there’. It is actually surprising to hear that it is a rather flattering look as unlike red lipstick orange does not have saturated blue or red undertones, so it will warm and brighten your complexion whatever your skin tone. We have some top tips on how to make orange lipstick work for you.
Sample shades.
Some lipsticks that you come across look particularly neon in the tube but when you apply them they are actually quite sheer. Make sure you try a range of shades from peach to coral so that you know which one suits you best.
Keep it simple.
The look works well when it is the sole focus so avoid smokey eyes and thick eyeliner. Instead just curl your lashes, slick on some mascara and let your lipstick provide a splash of colour.
Careful application.
Making sure that you apply lipstick carefully is the key to creating a sophisticated look. To get off to the best start, use lip balm to create a base before tracing your lips with lip liner. Investing in an invisible lip liner means that this clear formula can be used with any shade of lipstick. To finish just dab on your colour of choice.
Avoid clashing.
There is nothing worse than looking like you are wearing clown makeup so to avoid this sin avoid pink and red blushes and eye shadows.
Choose gold and blue.
Instead go for a shimmery bronzer to add a little colour to your cheeks. Blue eyeliner also works well; remember from your school days that orange and blue are complementary colours. Just think of colourful cat eyes.
Go for sheer.
If you still aren’t sure then try a sheer colour first. When you feel more comfortable you can always move on to a more saturated, matte colour.
