Summer Brides Wedding Hair and Make Up Inspiration 2018

We’re in the midst of wedding season which means an influx of summer brides wanting the perfect hair and make up for their Big Day and it’s our job, as the experts, to help them make the right choice.

Your bride will want to feel confident, comfortable and beautiful and her hair and makeup will go a long way in achieving that. There are many things to consider when helping her choose the final look and while the style of hair and make up needs to fit the feel of the wedding it also needs to be true to the bride’s natural style. She will want to look like the best version of herself and look great in all the wedding photos too, so you’ve got to create the best of both worlds! Even if she wants a natural style, it has to be defined enough to work on camera.

Experimentation at the trial run is key to finding a look they love and they may even end up opting for a style they would never have considered before! So listen to what they want, try it out, but don’t be afraid to offer your opinion too. It’s important that you find out where they’re getting married, the style of dress, details they want to show off, what they consider their best feature and parts they may want to hide to help you figure out a look they’ll love. Don’t push it though. At the end of the day, remember that they are the star of the show, so don’t overrun their ideas if it’s something they really want. It’s your job to make them feel a million dollars!

HIGH BUNS & TOP KNOTS

The last thing summer brides want to worry about on their wedding day is overheating! So a high bun can work as a fab suggestion for a summer bride that will keep her feeling fresh all day long.

Whether your bride wants an elegant style or a more relaxed vibe – you can style it to suit either. Top knots high on the head are great if your bride has a backless dress or detail she wants exposed. If your bride is on the shorter side, they add height and lengthen the neck – super flattering.

RELAXED UP-DO

If your bride is having a hazy summer wedding and wants to look beautifully relaxed, this is a lovely style of up-do to suggest, but be aware that these relaxed and ‘effortless’ styles actually take a fair bit of work to get spot on and make stay in place, so be sure you’re well practised.

Allowing a few delicate strands to fall loose, gently framing the face, adds to this soft, romantic look.

Incorporate real flowers as your bride’s accessory (affordable and beautiful! Have them ask their florist to wire the blooms for ease of use) or keep it all-natural.

This look is so versatile and can be kept neat or truly messy whilst still looking stunningly summery. Cleverly placed pins using Pam’s ‘up and over technique’ make this look achievable for all hair types.

HALF UP/HALF DOWN

If your bride wants to keep her hair off her face but still have the hair down look, this is the look to suggest. It can be chilled and relaxed like the up-do or super intricate. If your bride is undecided, give her an up-do that can be un-pinned for a fresh night time look! She can dance the night away with a whole new style.

CURLS & WAVES

Get to know your bride, if she spends her life with her hair down, she won’t thank you for pulling her hair into an up-do. Curls and waves are the perfect style, she can have beautiful wedding hair whilst feeling like herself. Defined Hollywood waves or loose, natural curls – you can make this style suit any bride.

BOHO BRAIDS

I’m sure you’ve been asked a million times for Boho braids, they really are a true wedding classic. They’re effortlessly chic and on a hot day, they’ll keep the bride looking and feeling cool! The best thing about braids is that they suit all hair types – long, short, straight and curly. You’re unlikely to have to tell a bride that this won’t work for them!

Keep them loose, romantic and soft or give them edge by keeping them structured. Deconstructed plaits are the BIG thing this summer – perfect for adding flowers or other adornments. You can really give your bride an extra something with a expertly placed accessory. Another selling point is the gorgeous waves your bride will be left with once they’re removed so she can go off on her honeymoon looking great with zero effort.

Braid Like A Pro!

FLOWER CROWNS

Another wedding classic and ideal for a summer wedding. Liaise with your bride and her florist to choose flowers that match her bouquet, to help tie the whole wedding theme together, or pick a few wild flowers for a personal touch. The great thing about flower crowns is that they can completely transform any style and create many different looks. Understated or big and bold, this is the perfect summer brides wedding accessory.

CROWN BRAID

One of the best styles for keeping hair off the brides face and neck and one that will last all day and night, when done right! As with other styles, your bride’s crown braid can be as neat as you want or completely deconstructed. You can in as many accessories as your bride wants or can be kept beautifully simple. Leave curls cascading and combine it with a crown braid on top for a twist on the half up/half down style. So many options mean you’ll keep any type of bride happy!

NATURAL RADIANCE

Summer brides need a lovely, natural glow but they are often worried that they will need a  heavy face of make up on a hot day to achieve that, if their skin is anything less than perfect.

Fortunately, a buildable, tinted moisturiser offers a light alternative with coverage. If your bride wants to look organic, let those freckles show, a la Meghan Markle! Natural and flawless. With a little skill, it is possible to achieve the same look with a full foundation. Your bride can be reassured that she can look light and effortless while feeling comfortable with a heavier coverage.

SUN-KISSED

With cleverly and carefully applied bronzer in all the right places, you can make your bride look sun-kissed. Add contour and highlight, but in moderation and blend, blend, blend! Less is more with this look. If your bride has chosen a high bun or top knot, this makeup look will keep her looking elegant and radiant.

DEWY

Make your summer brides glow for her wedding day. Dewy makeup keeps your bride fresh-faced and looking like the best version of herself. If your bride doesn’t usually wear lots of make up, a dewy face can help her feel comfortable while still looking like a goddess. Select make up that’ll keep her glowing all day so she won’t loose her shine.

summer brides

BARELY THERE

Another great look for a bride who doesn’t wear much make up or is worried about heaviness. Great for a casual wedding or if your bride is opting for a bold, detailed hairstyle. Make her skin your focus, you want a beautiful base and natural eye colours to compliment her eye colour. Don’t feel you need to avoid fake lashes, individual lashes can look very real whilst still adding that something extra. Make your bride looks like she’s radiating love and happiness.

BRIGHT LIP

This look really needs your expertise – be sure you help your bride select a shade that flatters her skin. A bright lip can add a pop of colour without having to go overboard with the makeup. With the right choice, it can suit any bride, age doesn’t need to be an issue. A bold lip can be a great look for a mature bride.

BOLD EYES

The classic smoky eye is a wedding staple but for a summer wedding, add a little twist! If you have a brave bride – go ALL out. If she’s a little more hesitant but still wants to introduce come colour, suggest a coloured eye-liner.

ETHEREAL

Light pinks, barely-there nudes and rosy cheeks create a beautifully, uncomplicated ethereal look. It is the ultimate summer wedding look. Boho-braids are a perfect match. A dash of highlighter in the inner eye add a real pop while keeping the whole look effortless.

bridal hair

To help you get clued up on all the best bridal styles for the year ahead, we wanted to give you a run-down of some of our favourite looks that we know we’ll be seeing a lot of it 2018.

Side partings, loose wavy blow-driesbraids and bold up-dos are just a few of our predicted bridal hair trends for 2018. Here are our top picks…

Faux ‘Air-Dryed AND Effortless

2018 is predicted to see a huge rise in trend for the ‘wholesome wedding’: Outdoorsy, woodland themes; “naked” cakes and minimal décor. It seems only fitting for the bride to match the theme!

If you have a bride seeking a more natural look for her Big Day, then faux ‘air-dried’ hair is going to be the ‘do for her. Looking effortless yet stylish, unpolished and cool. With minimal products and tools needed, this hair-down look is all about enhancing the hairs own texture. The idea is to keep it looking naturally gorgeous, like it’s just air-dried that way….

Blow-Dry to Perfection!

Master the art of a gorgeous wavy blow-dry on our 1 day Blow-drying Course

bridal hair
  • Start with damp hair (not wet!) and lightly comb through if needed, although try to do this as little as possible, as you want don’t want to change the hairs natural texture.

  • A little product is vital to make this look work and stop the hair looking fluffy – You want deliberate effortlessness, not genuinely natural hair!

  • Blow dry with a diffuser and lift at the roots. Whether your bride’s hair has a wave or not, a little dab of curl or wave cream like ‘Redken No Blow Dry NBD Airy Cream’ can work wonders.

  • If your bride has fine hair, try adding a little oil to the ends after towel drying to ‘dress’ and then lift and loosen at the roots around the crown to give the appearances of more volume.

  • For extra lift, use those trusty Babyliss heated rollers! If your client would prefer a little extra texture then try ‘Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It‘.

Braided Beauty

One trend we will be bringing with us from 2017, all the way through 2018 is the ever-popular plaits and braids. This is one bridal trend that is here to stay. Whether it’s a classic blow out with a baby hair line braid, a pancaked Dutch braid or a beautifully classic French plait; it’s clear to see that 2018 will showcase some of our well loved looks from the last few years.

Why not give your bride a jaw dropping ‘Wow’, with a beautifully slicked-back ‘do and a trio of braids fastened together at the back to give and soft and romantic feel?

  • Set the hair in rollers or blow dry for that essential root-lift.

  • Once the foundation is laid, part the hair into a deep side parting, and spritz with a Sea Salt Spray to add in some texture. We love ‘Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray

  • Add a 3 strand braid just beneath the ear on the left side and wrap it across to the right side and secure.

  • Repeat on the right side, securing just under the braid on the left.

  • Using the ends of both braids fold backwards and secure them together with Bobby pins to give the illusion of 3 braids.

  • If you want to add another dimension to this look you can curl the ends of your bride’s hair.

Captivating Curls

Talking of styles that never seem to go out of fashion, let’s talk curls…

2018 bridal hair is all about those waves and curls, natural or not. Loose curls and wavy hair are perfect for all types of bridal looks; whether your client is after an up-do, an all down or somewhere in between. Loose curls and waves are an easy way to achieve that dreamy look that will be seeing so much of in the coming year.

Romantic and sexy, we love this fab texture, even if it is one that makes many bridal hair stylists nervous! Pair bouncy tendrils with woven in flowers in a faux braid, or add in some rope twists for a bohemian half up half down do.

If your bride has natural curls, don’t freak out! We know that this is a challenge many bridal hair stylists out there are afraid of, but with the right techniques you’ll have no problem at all. If your bride is happy to embrace her natural curl, then help her really go for it! Define those ringlets with an excellent curl creme (we love TIGI Curlesque and Boots Essentials Curl Creme) and amp up the volume. If your bride would like to soften her curl, setting rollers in can help to do that in a really gorgeous way, loosening them up and making larger curls rather than tight ones which is often much easier for us to work with if you then want to style an up-do.

bridal hair

Go BIG or Go BOLD

Top knots and long “Rapunzel” plaits are some of the bolder up-dos predicted to be a huge hit for brides in 2018.

The Top knot may not be everyone’s first choice when it comes to bridal hair, but your more alternative bride may like the idea of something bold.

The Top Knot has the potential to be both edgy and elegany, so it’s a great choice for a variety of brides. It will also suit brides who have chosen a backless dress, perfectly, as this fantastic hairstyle will accentuate all those smaller details of the gown and allow the back of the dress to be on show in all it’s timeless beauty, for a real statement.

Why not incorporate both in to a more daring statement piece?

bridal hair
  • Make 2 French plaits using the front section of hair

  • Pull back the rest of the hair in to a high ponytail.

  • Plait the pony tail using a fishtail braid and wrap it in to a bun to make the top knot.

  • Wrap the two French plaits around the top knot and secure in to place with bobby pins.

  • Spray a light coating of hairspray to keep in place.

A/W 2017 Hair Trends: Our Favourite Wedding Looks for Autumn Brides

As we head out of the summer months where beachy waves and boho bridal styles still reign supreme for contemporary brides, it’s time to turn our attention to what’s hot on the catwalks right now and what we’re set to be seeing a lot more of in the coming months.

As a bridal hair stylist, it’s part of your job to know all of the latest looks that are on trend so that when your client looks to you for advice on the best look for them, you’ve got all the latest tricks up your sleeve. For autumn brides this year, there are a range of gorgeous looks that have taken on the autumn/winter fashion week catwalks that translate beautifully for brides-to-be getting ready to walk down the aisle.

Romantic

It’s not often that a high-fashion catwalk look translates so perfectly to bridal styles without some tweaking, but this year, we’ve lucked out!

Romanticism was a huge deal for most of the labels who had models strutting their stuff at London Fashion Week and so we’re feeling massively inspired by lots of designer hairdos.

There were many different ‘romantic’ styles to choose from, but it was the texture that remained consistent through them all. Super-soft, airy and almost wispy texture is what you should be aiming for when creating a romantic style for your autumn brides that is really on trend. Keep styles loose and wavy with candy-floss lightness and a natural finish. Having strands framing the face works here too to add some extra softness.

Pam loves OSIS Dust It for adding gentle lift at the roots and a soft, matte texture throughout the hair for delicate styles. This product will also provide much-needed grip without being at all noticeable, which is invaluable for keeping these very loose styles in place.

Fantasy

Whether you’re feeling inspired by Game of Thrones or just general mythical tales with princesses, mermaids and fairies, now is your time to have some fun with fantasy on your Autumn brides.

Taking the ‘ethereal’ look to the next level, we’re seeing a lot of middle partings with hair tucked behind the ears for an elven feel, soft waves and lots of braids!

Team these styles with magical tiaras and glittering hair accessories to complete the fantasy feel.

The Ice Queen is a look that is starting to come to the forefront too, which is more of a high-gloss sleek look rather than bouncy and wispy. Get this ready for winter and pair with extra pale complexions and rosy pink cheeks for that ‘just-in-from-the-snow’ flush.

Bed Head

The natural look is usually reserved for summer, but this year autumn brides are getting to have a go at the ‘I-woke-up-this-gorgeous’ styles too!

Less Boho and more rebellious though, the Bed Head styles we’re seeing are brimming with attitude – perfect for less conventional brides wanting something a little more ‘rough around the edges’.

This is the epitome of the cool-girl look and is without a doubt a youthful style that would suit a fashionista bride down to the ground. There are lots of brides-to-be out there who want to look amazing on their wedding day but at the same time, they very definitely want to look and feel like themselves and often, the classic bridal styles are not something they want. If this is the case, definitely give bed head a go!

The trick with creating a successful bed head look is to not be fooled into thinking that just because this is a style that looks ‘un-done’ it involves less work. Just as creating a flawless but seemingly effortless makeup look can sometimes actually present more of a challenge that heavy makeup, the bed head look is the same.

Always set the hair in rollers first for that essential root lift and movement throughout the hair and use multiple, great products for different areas – mousse or texturizing dust for the slightly fluffy roots, a lightweight styling paste like Move Ability 05 Styling Paste or a light hold hairspray for some roughness and hold on the lengths and a smoothing lotion/serum for the ends.

Working with Mature Brides: Professional Bridal Hairstylist Tips

A great hairstylist will always tailor their techniques to suit their client and that doesn’t just apply to different hair types, it’s about age too.

Working with mature brides can present a bit of a challenge if you’re used to creating your hair and makeup looks on younger models, but all it takes is a little tweaking to what you already know, for great results.

As we get older, our hair has a tendency to get finer and more coarse, whatever the hair type and when working with older clients it makes a big difference to take this into account when thinking about products and hairstyling methods. But this doesn’t mean that your style choices are restricted – anything goes! You shouldn’t be afraid of offering your mature brides a great selection of looks, just as you would for their younger counterparts.

All of the styles and techniques that we teach on our 2 Day Bridal Hair Course4 Day Bridal Hair Course and Online Bridal Hair Course are suitable for all ages, mature brides included!

Regardless of how hair changes as we age, it is always possible to create beautiful hair. You might be surprised at what even very fine hair can do, when in the right hands.

mature brides

Although you will be taken through, step by step, how to put together some gorgeous styles on our bridal hair courses, our aim is not just to teach you a few great looks – instead, we aim to equip you with the skills and confidence to be able to go out and create any hairstyle, perfectly.

Bridal Hairstyles for Mature Brides

When working with mature brides, the journey should start by asking lots of key questions!

  • Would they like their hair up or down? Finding out your clients preferences is a great place to start!

  • What is their venue? Is it a posh hotel or village hall? The setting will have a big impact of your style choices.

  • What style of dress will your client be wearing? Off the shoulder, low back or high neck? You’ll need to choose a hairstyle that creates balance.

  • What is the height of the groom? Some couples don’t differ much in height and usually, the bride wants to avoid towering over her other half. if this is that case, you’ll want to steer clear of tall updo’s like ballerina buns.

Choosing the right Bridal Hair Style

The hairstyle and makeup that your bride ends up choosing will naturally come down to what she wants, but it’s your job to help her find that and to give her options that really work.

When working with mature brides, there’s no need to be nervous and stick to a traditional French pleat – unless your bride wants that, of course!

Age is just a number and shouldn’t dictate style. Anything goes!

Try some low, soft buns for delicate face framing; tumbling Grecian styles for something sexy or half up half down (with or without extensions) for a soft, elegant, gorgeous look.

Naturally curly hair is awesome, not scary and don’t you forget it! If you feel more than a little daunted at the prospect of having to work with a client’s naturally curly hair, you’re not alone. Most bridal hair stylists live in fear of having to adapt their styling skills to suit a full head of curls, but with the right tricks and techniques you need not be afraid.

Curly hair is gorgeous and your clients who have been blessed with it should always be encouraged to embrace those curls, rather than shy away from them, so it’s time to get to grips with your curly hair styling skills!

Here at Create Beautiful Hair, we know that facing those hairstyling fears can be a challenge, but if you tackle it head on you’ll soon forget why you were so worried about it in the first place.

We always make sure to cover how to style curly hair on our 2 day and 4 day bridal hair styling courses and Pam has created a number of fantastic online tutorials on this subject for you to work with in your own time too.

Choose the Right Products

Selecting the perfect products to work with curly hair is a must – there’s no winging it in this department. You want a product that will help to create definition, hold and shine without being crunchy, frizzy or weighing down but without a lot of trial and error, this is easier said than done.

Fortunately for you, with Pam’s 25+ years of experience working as a bridal hair stylist for many a curly haired bride, she’s done that trial and error for you!

You’ll be pleased to hear that the best products aren’t always the most expensive ones – Pam loves Boots Essentials curl crème for creating smooth, beautiful curls with great hold and at only £1.99 a tub, you can’t go wrong! Another favourite of Pam’s is Tigi Curlesque – a must for any hairstyling kit.

Use the Right Tools

Having the right tools to work with naturally curly hair is imperative if you want great results – you can’t make do when it comes to this tricky hair type.

Just because hair is curly, don’t be fooled into thinking you won’t need your tongs, because for flawless curls these are invaluable. If your client’s curls are looking a little too wild and frizzy a small sized curling tong can save the day – even just a handful of neatened up sections throughout can work wonders.

You should always avoid using a hairbrush on curly hair and instead, try a wide tooth comb or tangle teaser, if you’ve got some nasty knots to deal with.

Embrace Volume

If you get the pleasure of working with a head of natural curls in 2017, embrace the volume because it’s very in! Often people with curly hair are desperate to flatten it down and neaten it up, but more often than not, they will look so much better if you try the ‘go big or go home’ attitude.

You’ll have seen from our recent blog ‘Oscars Red Carpet Bridal Hair & Makeup Inspiration for 2017’ that Halle Berry has been rocking the natural look with her big, volumised curls and looks amazing!

Hydrate!

One of the most common problems when it comes to curly hair is lack of moisture in those locks. Your curly haired client might need a little help in this department, so make sure that the products your use are moisturising and if you need a bit of a shine boost, don’t be afraid to use a touch of serum or curl oil once you’re done styling. Be careful not to overdo it though – start with a tiny amount and build up as necessary.

On the big day all eyes will be on the bride and it’s our job as wedding hair and makeup artists to stay calm and make sure she looks and feels totally fabulous! We all know that it’s not really about the groom and even the wedding dress is just an accessory…

The bride is the main feature of the day – not to put you under too much pressure!

With beautiful wedding hair and makeup either natural, glamorous or somewhere in between, you can help your bride to feel confident and gorgeous.

On the big day she’s going to be excited and a bit nervous, so applying make-up and styling hair is only part of your job. You need to make sure that she is ready on time, whilst helping her stay to relaxed and calm.

Your Wedding Hair & Makeup Kit

Make sure you allow plenty of time for your journey – factor in time for parking and make sure you have all your kit ready the night before.

Wedding Hair Kit: Always have plenty of hairspray, grips and hair pins, a selection of donuts, snag free elastic bands and a pair of scissors – not for cutting the hair, but to cut labels off dresses.

Bridal Makeup kit: Don’t run out of anything! Make sure you have the right colour lipstick and a good mattifying product such as Cosmetics a la carte Matte Miracle and some mattifying papers. I love the Kleenex shine off papers, so if she has oily skin give her a couple to pop in her bag.

I learned very early not to cut down my hair or makeup kit down on the day of the wedding; If you just take the items you need you might find you come unstuck when an aunty or even the MOB decides she would like her hair or makeup doing after all!

First thing’s first – find out the time of the wedding

Once she’s chosen a style for her hair and a look for her makeup you can start the process of working out the timings for the day. Whatever you do, don’t let the bride decide what time she needs to be ready! It is your job to know best.

When you know the time of the wedding, find out how long it is going to take her to get there. Remember, if it’s a long drive and she’s going to be in a vintage car, they tend to take longer to get from A to B.

If she’s having a church wedding brides can usually get away with arriving a few minutes late, but if she is having a civil ceremony she will need to arrive 10-15 minutes before her ceremony for her interview with the registrar.

Next, you need to allow some time for the photographer to take a few photos. I usually allow approximately half and hour for this and then she’ll need an additional 10-15 minutes to get dressed. Factor in a bit of time to pop to the loo, have a glass of champagne and stop to take breather whilst she has a look at her flowers when the florist arrives.

Timings on the big day

For a 2 o’clock wedding with a 15 minute journey time you need to have her ready for 1pm, ready to step into her dress.

With this is as a guideline, your timings for the bride and 2 bridesmaids (with just hair for the bridesmaids) would look something like this:

7.30 arrive and set up

8.00 Curl Brides hair

8.30 Curl BM 2

9.00 Curl BM 1

9.30 style BM 2 hair

10.15 style BM 1 Hair

11.00 bride’s makeup

12.00 style bride’s hair

1.00 ready to get dressed

Once the bridal party has seen the timetable they will understand why we have to start so early and the bridesmaids are more likely to arrive on time!

Working with the Bridesmaids

It’s always a good idea to ask the bridesmaids to collect a few images of styles they like beforehand – so you can get a bit of an idea of what they are likely to want on the day and it’s worth finding out a little bit about the bridesmaids hair type in advance. For example, does anyone have an incredible amount of thick, heavy hair? If so, you can allow yourself more time to work with it.

If you are just starting out, it would be a good idea to ask them to send you a few images a week or so in advance, so you can practice the styles in advance and build your confidence before the big day.

You probably won’t have had the chance to do a trial for the bridesmaids, so this may be the first time you have been able to work on their hair.

Watch some of our quick style videos on Facebook to get some helpful hints and ideas for quick bridesmaid styles.

Dealing with Difficult bridesmaids

Stick to your timetable! Don’t allow yourself to be thrown of course by a difficult bridesmaid who doesn’t realise that this is not all about her.

If you feel you are running short of time and you haven’t quite finished her hair and makeup hold your nerve! Just let her know that you have to start the bride now but that you will come back to her when the bride is ready. Reassure her that you will make sure she is happy but let her know that you have to start the bride.

She’ll no doubt spend the next hour in front of the mirror and invariably will be almost sorted by the time you get her back in front of you anyway!

Not all bridal styles have to be difficult, in fact, some of the most beautiful hairstyles are really quite simple to do if you know the basics – this might come as welcome news to some of the more nervous or beginner bridal hairstylists out there!

Knowing how to create beautiful braids is a must have piece of the puzzle for all bridal hairstylists, which is why we run our dedicated 1 day braiding courses, to really help you get to grip with all the different techniques. Smaller braids are a fantastic addition to many a bridal style, and knowing how to create chunkier braids in various ways can also be fabulous as stand alone styles.

The Pull-Through Braid is a really easy bridal style that anyone can master and although simple to put together, it does actually look really impressive, particularly when combined with a fabulous hair vine woven throughout, and is a really popular look amongst many brides-to-be. If your client is keen on using hair extensions, this is the perfect style for that too!

Style it sleek for a more traditional bride, or leave some sections loose and gently curled at the front for a really romantic, Boho look.

Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to create a beautiful Pull-Through Braid, a need-to-know bridal style:

  • Step 1: Choose your parting and create your first section by pulling hair back from just above the temples and securing into a small ponytail right on the crown of the head. It’s a good idea to decide right from the beginning if you’re going for a soft or sleek bridal style. If you want to soften the edges, leave some strands loose around the face. If you’re using extensions, add your first weft here under the ponytail.
  • Step 2: Clip that first ponytail out of the way and start on your next section. Repeat step one but this time pulling hair from just below the temples. Add extensions underneath if desired.
  • Step 3: Unclip the first ponytail and divide into two sections right down the middle. Pop those divided pieces over each shoulder to keep out of the way for a moment. Clip the second pony on top on your head, lifting up in-between that top, divided section
  • Step 4: Section three will pull back from around mid ear height. Bring that section together with the two divided sections to make a single pony, add a weft if desired and secure
  • Step 5: Unclip the second pony tail and repeat. Divide into two, move out of the way, clip the third pony up and bring the divided sections together with a new section.
  • Step 6: For extra length and volume, clip your final weft in here just above the nape of the neck. Secure all of the loose hair together in a ponytail and continue the braiding pattern down to the ends of the hair.
  • Step 7: Once you reach the end, secure with an elastic. For a bigger, more textured braid use your index fingers to slowly and carefully pull each section out a little to pump up the volume!
  • Step 8: If you have left sections out at the front, use your barrel tongs to create soft curls to frame the face perfectly.

Bridal Hair Webinars

We know that many of you choose to train with us online because you’re unable to attend one of our face to face courses, and we know that sometimes the idea of training in anything at home can bit a bit daunting if you feel like you’re going it alone. Because of this, we aim to make our online course as interactive as possible and have lots of ways in which you can get to know your teacher, Pam Wrigley.

Our live bridal hair webinars are informal, friendly and available to all of our online students – all you have to do is book. Taking part in these webinars is a fantastic way to further your bridal hairstyling education and even gives you the opportunity to see styles you want to learn (if they’re not already available online!) and ask any questions that you’ve been stuck on. It’s also really helpful to listen and learn from other student’s questions, just as you would in any group class.
