This stunning up ‘do is an excellent example of how to incorporate an elegant rope twist into a classic bun for a more contemporary and unique feel. A perfect choice for a summer or destination bride who has opted for a Grecian style dress, to flatter beautiful bone structure and keep her cool on a hot wedding day!

The high ballerina bun is a must have style in any hairstylists repetoire, but sometimes without a few little extra touches, they can be quite severe. Here, Vania has chosen to give a little lift at the front to soften the edges, and the braid wrapped around the base of the bun gives that perfect final touch, without taking away from the main bulk!

This is a wonderful use of pin-curls and is a great style for brides with naturally thick, curly hair. Curly hair can be quite unruly and difficult to work with if you haven’t got your technique quite right, but here, Vania has used our online tutorials to the best of her and her model’s advantage! A fabulous style, full of volume and texture.

Creating a beautiful hairstyle is about so much more than putting the hair up correctly (although this is, of course, important too!) – it’s also about helping your client find a style that is perfect for them. Here, Vania has chosen a chic, vintage inspired style that helps bring out all of her model’s gorgeous features, and fits in just right with her makeup and look.

A glamourous half up half down do never fails to impress, particularly if your client is wanting to show off her hair length or wear extensions on her big day. Here, Vania has created a gorgeous, relaxed curl for a lovely, bouncy finish and has used Pam’s ‘up and over’ technique to secure the twist at the back firmly, without the need for tons of grips and discomfort!

When you’re a member of our online course or if you have attended one of our 2 or 4 day courses, we like to make sure that you get all the support you need to keep creating beautiful styles.

One of our students sent us in a couple of photos recently, wanting feedback on her backcombing and roller setting, so we thought we would share Pam’s top tips with you so you can benefit from her expert, professional advice too! Enjoy :)  xxx

Pam’s Advice:

Hi Louise,

Thanks for sending your photos in of your work so far: first of all, well done!!

Your roller set is nice and neat with the correct placement of the rollers – just one thing to be careful of – try to make sure you keep the section lines between the rollers – i.e. the partings at the sides and above and below each roller nice and clean and straight – I know it is not easy to achieve this especially on the practice heads but, if you take your time when creating each roller section you will find it will make your job much easier when it come to styling the hair later on – so it is worth persevering.

Your back-combing  is fabulous!

This backcombing would be great when  your working with medium/long hair or when you are creating a French pleat -but when you’re working with short hair try this tip:

When you backcomb concentrate more on the root of the hair with the comb and hold tighter onto the ends of the hair. You may have to go back over the backcombing at the root a couple of times and just work your way up perhaps 2-3inches of the length of the hair, keeping hold of the ends of the hair at all times. The result: you will get a good amount of backcombing at the root without compromising the length of the hair, so the hair still looks thick at the ends!

If you look again at the photos you sent me, the ends of the hair look thin and straggly; this is fine if you are creating something like a French pleat, but if you want to create a tumbling relaxed up do e.g. the Grecian up do on short hair – you need to be able to keep as much of the length of the hair as possible, whilst still back combing,  so you give the impression that she has lots of hair.

Hope this is helpful! I will be doing a tutorial on this in the near future but let me know in the mean time of you need more help with this and I will try and do a short video on my ipad for you : -)

Keep up the good work !!

All the best,

Pam

Crimped hair has become uber trendy again this season thanks to its appearance on the catwalks. To create the iconic ‘waffle’ texture you either need to use a hair crimper or if you are looking for a more natural approach you can tightly braid your hair before running over it several times with straighteners. The benefit of a hair crimper is that it is faster and gives sharper, cleaner bends to each strand of hair.

Try the trend

Before beginning you will need: • A crimping iron • A tail comb to smooth and create sections • Hairspray • Clips for sectioning

Step one:

Start with clean, dry hair and mist over it with heat protection spray.

Step two:

Separate your hair into sections, clipping up each section out of the way until you need it. Each section should be narrower than the plates of the crimper as this will make working through the sections more easily.

Step three:

Begin at the back of your head at the base of your neck. Spray the chosen section with the hairspray and then allow this to dry before combing through with your tailcomb.

Step four:

With the section that you are working on, take small slices from the bottom of the section and work your way upwards crimping each slice. When you have crimped the whole section you can then move on to the next section.

Step five:

You should crimp all of the lower sections first before moving on to crimp the top sections, and finally the crown.

Step six:

Allow hair to completely cool before touching it. You can then mist over the style with some light hold hairspray. This will provide you with hold but will not make your hair crispy. You will also be able to keep movement through your hair.
