One of our favourite Selena Gomez looks has to be the stylish updo that she sported for this years MET Gala in New York. Inspiration for the style came from the Gala’s theme which was “White Tie and Decorations” for a look that epitomised American glamour. The updo really suited the plum Diane von Furstenberg dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.

Get the look:

Step 1: Apply volumising mousse to freshly washed hair, from the roots and work it down to the tips of your hair. This will not only give volume at the crown but also boost strands providing some extra body.

Step 2: Blow dry hair smooth, pointing the hair dryer downward and using a bristle brush.

Step 3: Mist over some heat protection spray to keep you hair healthy and shiny. Take curling tongs with a 1.5 inch barrel and curl hair in one inch sections. Gradually work your way all over the head until you have curled all of your hair.

Step 3: Now you can begin to create the updo. Divide your hair into three sections: bottom from ear to ear, middle from temple to temple, and then top which will be your crown.

Step 4: Begin with the bottom section and pull your hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Now, roll the whole ponytail upwards and pin it horizontally so that it looks tube like. You can secure this with kirby grips, but make sure that they match your hair colour.

Step 5: Take hold of the middle section and roll it horizontally and pin it underneath into the bottom roll.

Step 6: Lightly tease the roots of the top section to create a little more volume and then roll it vertically, as though you were creating a downward French twist, and when you are happy you can pin it into the middle roll.

Step 7: Finish off by spraying over some strong hairspray to provide long lasting hold.
